the ballroom cafe at dne school of dance was the most perfect setting for adam and i's evening baby shower... yes, i am blogging my own baby shower :o)  our amazing sisters, danielle and stacey with help from the nana's, we were treated to the most special evening in honor of our bundle of joy on the way (i'm a little late posting this... sarah grace is 7 months old now)

around 40 ladies enjoyed an evening baby shower with a fabulous salad bar, decadent desserts, fun games and... pink, pink and more pink

the ballroom cafe at dne school of dance is a great space for intimate parties and gatherings... showers, anniversaries, birthdays... you name it.  located off the main mill at dne school of dance in north chelmsford the gals turned the space into a room perfect for a princess and i felt like one that evening!!

the gold chivari chairs, blush lamour linen and blush all over sequin linens that dressed the tables can be rented from peterson party center and table toppers of newton... a HUGE shout out and THANK YOU to the amazing team at PPC for such gorgeous linens and chairs!!!

cocktail tables in this amazing sequin linen (table toppers of newton) held simple candle scapes... my sister and i made gold glitter votives to accompany the gold candle holders (which we also made... all can be found at les fleurs)

...how to make gold cylinder vases...
materials:
cylinder vase
spray paint (we used gold metallic from rustoleum i got at home depot)
pillar candle (to fit inside cylinder)

1. in a well vented area, holding the vase in one hand (place your hand inside the vase... this way you have total control to move it around) begin spray painting at the base of the vase (**wear gloves or a shirt you don't mind getting messy, spray paint does not wash of clothes)
2.  hold your can of spray paint approx. 12 inches from the vase and spray lightly... covering heavier at the base of the vase and go lighter as you travel up
3.  allow the vase to dry for 10 minutes before lightly spray again.  when you return to the vase to spray the second coat, only spray at the bottom of the vase... you want a very fair covering of paint around 3/4 of the vase leaving the last 1/4 of the top still clear
4.  after 24 hours, the spray paint is completely dry, place your pillar candle inside, light and enjoy!

(please remember, that spray paint on glass will chip/scrape if not handled delicately)

as soon as we found out we were welcoming a baby girl this september, shower planning began!   pink, gold & hearts were the theme.  we knew we wanted invitations to be a different shape and hand made... the heart theme fit perfectly into the invites!  danielle and i went to michaels craft for all our supplies and inspiration for the invitations.  we spent a weekend in maine with our mom, aunt and our cousin heather (who makes frequent appearances on our blog) to make these lovely invites.

for the main invitation we found a 5" ceramic heart that we used as a template.  we printed the phrase "baby love" on kraft paper and the invite itself on white card stock.  using a photograph spray adhesive... placed the kraft and white papers together, traced and hand cut each invite.  added a little sparkle and they were ready to go!  inside the envelope there were enclosure hearts, of what other than gold glitter paper with details for a fun raffle.  a raffle or making notes on the invite about giving books is such a great way to help the parents-to-be begin babies library.  in adam and i's case the girls asked guests to bring a book or package of diapers if they wanted to be in the raffle... lovely prizes to be won, you'll see those below!!

floating candles in rental cylinder vases from les fleurs reflected beautifully along the mirrors in the cafe!

during the weekend in maine, not only did my family help cut out 150 hearts for the invitations, we continued to cut paper hearts for this beaut below!  i sewed paper hearts through my sewing machine alternating shades of pinks with kraft and white hearts to create this garland.  from a 10' pole i tied each heart strand, the girls strung the pole along the mirrors in the cafe.  it was a great backdrop as i opened gifts.

eat, drink and be merry is a motto i like to live by and my shower was just that!  stacey created an salad bar accompanied by anything you would think of and the most wonderful dessert table!!

a question i feel is often asked when planning a shower... games... what games shall we play?  and more often we hear folks say, no games.  i don't want anything hoaky (as a nana would say) i am one of those ladies who said "no games!"  my ladies found away around that and made opening gifts entertaining and fun for the guests with little door prizes.

they set an egg timer and whom ever's gift i was opening at the time it went off, they received a little token.  we gave "it's a girl" nail polish from opi.

these lovely gift boxes were for the book/diaper raffle.  expecting moms... this was the greatest idea ever!  in the shower invite's there was a separate gold heart, which asked the guests (optional of course) to bring a package of diapers (size 1 or 2) or a book to be entered to win a great prize.  baby sarah received so many books it filled a whole bookcase and enough diapers, that at 7 months old (that's how old she is now that i am finally writing this) i just bought the first box of diapers!!  thank you ladies!!

it seemed only fitting that for favors, all the ladies went home with blush pink iced heart sugar cookies!

thank you for sharing in all the love, sarah is soo lucky!

and... on september 3rd at 4:21 this little doll arrived, now a week shy of 7 months old!!
