Holiday Decorating

Getting a head start…

getting ready for the holidays

Every year I wonder how we will get it all done, but somehow we always do. I’m sure a few of you may feel the same way about your own home? To speak openly...what encourages me to get started is the enjoyment of making my home feel festive for my family and friends. I love the finished effect when my tree is trimmed, the garland is hung and I can soak up the holiday spirit with my loved ones. It truly is a magical time of the year.

the countdown

Who’s counting ... but we are only 7 weeks away from Christmas and the countdown has officially begun. With our busy schedules, preparing for the holidays can be overwhelming for all of us.

The good news is that I have a few tips to help your planning and decorating go a little more smoothly:

  • start planning in November

  • see what decorations can be reused and what needs updating or replacing

  • choose a color palette

  • focus on key items in each room

my favorite “goto” holiday decorations

Ribbon

I always start with ribbon; it’s one of my favorite sources of inspiration for the holidays. I tend to gravitate to the softer tones of grey, beige and silver because they compliment most home decor. At Les Fleurs, we carry a unique variety of holiday, vintage and French ribbons made from silk, satin, velvet and even burlap. Choose from simple solid ribbons to hang wreaths or luxurious jacquards and embroidered designs to adorn your home with fabulous bows.

Wreaths

Adding a wreath to your door is a given, but what about adding a few to other areas of your home? I love to add different types of wreaths to windows in my home to add texture using foliage like eucalyptus, magnolia, boxwood and juniper, to name a few.

Vintage Globe Ornaments

Ornaments are not only for hanging on trees... Vintage bulbs added to wreaths, mantels and garlands add a beautiful old-world look. The aged patina of both painted and mercury glass is a reminder of holidays from years passed.

holiday open house

I always love sharing new trends for the holidays. So, if you’re in the neighborhood on November 7th, 8th or 9th, please stop by the shop to chat with me about your holiday decor ideas and enjoy some sips and snacks. Our Holiday Open House will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit!
Merci.

xoxo,
Sandra
