Fall Decorating Ideas For Your Front Entryway

Fall is in the air and what better way to welcome the season than with a fall update for your front door and entrance? Whenever I pass a neighborhood home decorated with pumpkins and mums, it evokes a warm and inviting signal that fall is here. There is something inherently cozy about this, which gives me the inspiration to liven up the front entryway of my own home.

picking pumpkins and more

Last weekend provided the perfect early fall weather to get started so I jumped out of bed and headed straight to Les Fleurs to collect a few fall items. For my entry, I decided to include more than just my two urns filled with fall plantings. I quickly gathered a few of my favorite objects from around the shop: a few vintage grey pails from France, a twiggy grapevine wreath, bittersweet and, of course, lots of heirloom pumpkins in alternating colors of white & green.

anchor pieces

Starting with the stairs, I placed the pumpkins first with alternating the colors on each step. I didn’t want to clutter the pumpkins with too many plantings, therefore I chose a large green kale with a petite 4” Miranda orange mum and then added a touch of ornamental “hot pops purple” peppers. I used my large grey sap bucket to hold the kale and smaller containers for the others to give the setting a simple, uncluttered feel. I finished the stairs with cuttings (from the woods) of bittersweet, draping throughout the pumpkins and plantings.

finishing touches

To finish the look, I headed to my garden with snips in hand to collect an array of twigs, grasses and acorns to assemble on my wreath. I even added a few stems of hemlock and wheat grass to add a little green to the mix. To adhere everything I used lots of thin green wire and my handy glue gun. As a disclaimer, I would only display this type of wreath under a covered door to protect it from wind and rain. Otherwise, on a windy day, you might have a few of your dried items fly off into the yard!

welcome guests

After a few hours of decorating, my home looked a little more welcoming for the season. Even my pup Obie was willing to pose in the vignette for a pretty fall portrait.
