Celebrate Mom

Being a Mom

One of the greatest joys in my life is being a mother. I love that we set aside a whole day, every year, to honor and celebrate the moms in our lives. I’d like to take a moment on this Mother’s Day to think about what it truly means to be a mom.

I lost my mom at a young age, before I had my own children. While I wished that she could have met her grandchildren and been part of their lives, I still made sure that my boys knew her through my stories. I admired everything about my mom, and on this Mother’s Day, I’m reminded of her dedication to me and my siblings. It is what gave me the framework to become the mother I am today.

The Silver Lining

Even though this year’s celebration may look a little different, I believe there is a silver lining. My boys have seen that during this time of uncertainty, we were able to navigate through it together. Has it been perfect? No… but having my boys home 24/7 throughout this pandemic has given me the opportunity to reconnect with them in a way we haven’t in years. I’ve cherished our evening conversations that have lasted for hours as well as our sit-down dinners (instead of the usual grab and go). Zoom calls with grandma and cousins have been fun, which makes me wonder why we don’t do them more often.

On the positive side, the shelter in place has given us the opportunity to slow down and realize how precious life truly is. Life gets busy and schedules don’t always allow for togetherness day in and day out. On this Mother’s Day, I’m reminded to treasure our moments together.

I’m sure your home life has been similar to mine: special moments of togetherness, mixed with a little messy/crazy too? My wish for all of us this season is that we make time for these incredible bonding experiences once we settle back into our busy, hectic lives.

I hope that you feel so loved and celebrated this Mother’s Day.

Xoxo,

Sandra
