Making Jewelry in Paris

Rediscovering Paris

One of the things I adore about Paris is that no matter how many times I return, the city still manages to surprise me. I always seem to find a hidden garden, a tucked-away atelier, or a new experience waiting just around the bend. This year, I made a resolution: each time I visit France, I’ll try something new. Whether it’s visiting a place I’ve never been or trying a craft I’ve yet to explore, I hope to find things that inspire me and push me creatively.

The Atelier

On my most recent trip, I kept that promise and dove into the world of artisan jewelry. For one afternoon, I stepped into the shoes of a Parisian jeweler, hammer in hand, torch aglow, and let me tell you—it was an absolute blast.

The workshop took place at Monsieur Paris, an artisanal jewelry shop tucked in the heart of the Marais’s historic jewelry district. For the past 15 years, they've been creating timeless pieces—each one designed and crafted by hand using recycled 18k gold, right there in their Parisian atelier. There’s something so special about knowing that every piece is not only made in France but made with care for both the craft and the planet.

The Craft

This year, Monsieur Paris opened their doors to the public for something new: intimate workshops where you can learn to create one of their signature designs—the Olympe band. It’s a delicate 18k gold ring, subtly hammered to catch the light, and understated in the most elegant way.

Guided by Maryam, their expert jeweler, I learned how to measure my ring size, cut the gold band, shape it, solder the ends, hammer it to size, and finally, polish it to a shine. Who knew so many steps were needed to create just one ring?

The Boutique

I left with not only a deeper appreciation for the art of jewelry making, but a newfound love for a brand I’ll be coming back to see. In fact, I couldn’t resist—upon leaving the workshop, I stopped by their boutique just a few steps away on Rue Charlot and ordered the Kamala ring with a green sapphire to stack with my new Olympe band!

Planning a Visit

If you’d like to book your own workshop, you can reach out by email to boutique@monsieur-paris.com. It’s a beautiful experience to do on your own or with a friend (max two people per session), and a worthwhile way to spend two hours of your time in Paris. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply curious to try something new, it’s a memorable way to connect with French craftsmanship, and walk away with a ring you made yourself.
